The UD WATER Project (Watershed Action Team for Ecological Restoration) is a multi-disciplinary project focused on water resource management and water quality, with an emphasis on practices and programs that minimize UD’s impact on the White Clay Creek (a wild and scenic river whose tributaries flow through our campus) and the Christina River. The UD WATER Project team consists of faculty and professionals associated with the Delaware Water Resources Center/UD Water Resources Agency, the Delaware Geological Survey, the University’s Stormwater Management and Grounds programs, and the City of Newark.
We are seeking three (3) University of Delaware undergraduate students to serve as interns to work together, and with other members of the UD WATER team, in the winter and spring semesters of 2017. Interns will conduct research to develop watershed plans in the Upper Christina River and White Clay Creek catchments on or near the UD campus. Research will focus on the Piedmont watersheds on the Laird campus tributary to the White Clay Creek National Wild and Scenic River and Coastal Plain tributary to the Upper Christina River on the UD STAR campus. Applicants should have strong interest in the environment, natural resources, and/or geographic information systems (GIS). Interns may work up to 150 hours, paid at $10 per hour. Interns will be selected in early December and can begin work in early 2017.
Requirements: Applicants must: (1) have an overall GPA of 3.0 or greater; (2) be willing to work in winter and spring semesters of 2017; and (3) participate in periodic project meetings with the UD WATER team as well as a poster session held in April 2017.
