L. Harvey Kirk III
UDWRC Water Policy Seminar No. 1
Friday December 10, 2021 | 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Abstract: Please join us at UDWRC Water Policy Seminar No. 1 on Friday December 10, 2021 at 10 am where L. Harvey Kirk III (UD ’68) will speak about his book (Vanguards of the Brandywine) and the three and half century family history along the Brandywine where they settled along Kirk Road at Rockland in 1688 just two decades after William Penn founded Philadelphia. Learn about the spirited origins of the Swedes and the Brannvin at the Old Barley Mill, how the Kirks gave Oliver Canby his start in gristmilling, the French connection and how the Kirks and the du Ponts were next door neighbors when the gunpowder mills were built at Hagley, the historic 19th century floods along the river (one as big as Ida), and the legend of the bear near the Center Meeting House. We’ll have some good time to engage with Harvey and learn about the last 350 years, all in one morning!
