In 1992, Gerald Kauffman received a floodplain fellowship grant from the Association of State Floodplain Managers to develop a greenway plan for the Flint Creek watershed in Barrington, Illinois. The Flint Creek flows to the Fox River in Lake and Cook Counties in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. A regional trail system is proposed along the Flint Creek greenway to tie together open space, parks, wetlands, prairies, and oak savannas in the villages that surround Barrington.
